Visual Data (San Antonio) developed HazMat 2000 to assist first responders with easily accessible and accurate response information. According to the EPA and NOAA, "Rapid action by firefighter, police, and other emergency response personnel often is severely hampered by lack of accurate information on the substance spilled and safe response actions." Built with Environmental System Research Inc.'s (ESRI) MapObjectsd technology it provides life saving, time sensitive information during the initial phase of a dangerous goods/hazardous materials incident. HazMat 2000 integrates the ERG2000 chemical database, a method to manage the data, an air dispersion model and GIS-based mapping capabilities. Joe Chapa, City Of San Antonio, Texas GIS Manager states

"HazMat provides front-line emergency response personnel with state-of-the-art mobilization and evacuation/protection capabilities. It is expected increase efficiencies in the way multiple agencies respond (i.e. coordination by police, fire, ambulance) to incidents, provide responders with sophisticated modeling tools (evacuation of schools, neighborhoods, critical care facilities etc...) and most importantly save lives."

HazMat 2000 can automatically receive ANI/ALI location records, model downwind dispersion of a chemical cloud(s), graphically manage evacuation of citizens/facilities in the isolation and protective zones, and produce a graphic display of road intersections and locations, of other facilities storing hazardous materials as well as vulnerable locations. It includes a powerful search engine that allows users to find ERG2000 chemicals and chemical specific information instantly including on-line information.
